When should you choose a spiral staircase over a straight staircase?

In general, it can be said that a spiral staircase should not be used as a primary route in a public environment. This as it can be cramped and awkward to meet someone else on the stairs. In those cases, it is better to choose a straight staircase rather than a spiral staircase. A spiral staircase is instead best suited as an alternative route or when a smaller number of people use it as a travel route. However, a spiral staircase saves space and takes up less floor space than a straight staircase, which means that it can be advantageous to use a spiral staircase if space is limited.
