What is an industrial staircase?
An industrial staircase is a robust staircase that is specially designed for industrial purposes and is often realised as a space-saving spiral staircase. Some important information:
Material and construction: Industrial staircases are made of robust steel and are designed to have a high load-bearing capacity. They are usually fitted with a single or multiple steps. Eurostair only uses high-strength steel, a material used in aerospace engineering, in their construction.
Intended use: Industrial stairs are used in many different companies and are often an important part of a smooth workflow. Cleaning, maintenance and servicing work on buildings or machines can only be carried out with the help of safe access.
Safety: As industrial staircases are often used as outdoor escape stairs and are intended for emergencies, they must fulfil certain requirements. These include:
Width and height: Industrial stairs must have a certain width and height to prevent people from slipping when leaving the building. The steps must have an anti-slip coating to prevent accidents. Steps must be designed in such a way that liquids can drain off; depending on the area of application, this is achieved by corrugation, profiling or perforated profiles.
Handrails: Industrial staircases with an access height of more than 500 mm and a lateral gap next to the stair stringer that is more than 120 mm wide must have at least one handrail on this side. With a tread width of more than 1200 mm, there must be a handrail on both sides.
Inclination angle: Industrial staircases are often manufactured with an inclination angle of 45 degrees. However, an angle of inclination greater than 45 to 75 degrees is permitted for stair ladders used to access machinery.
