Options for standard spiral staircase

We use many standard components to achieve a rational production which results in both good pricing and continuous high quality. The stairs are of course customized specifically for your property and your wishes. 

The components that a Eurostair spiral staircase consists of are available in different executions. You can read more about the options for each component under each category below. 

Steps and step surfaces

The step is one of the parts in a spiral staircase that is worn most. Therefore, it needs to have a function to resit both weather and friction. Eurostair offers high quality and our steps is suitable for many different areas within industry, offices and public buildings. 

There are different step surfaces to choose between. Outdoors gratings are often used as the step surface since it contributes to the already light and playful look of the spiral staircase. The stairs are robust and extremely stable steel stairs which still seems light and minimal. Further, it does not interfere the overall visual impression of the building since the stair easily blends into the background. Besides durability and weatherability this aspect is an important reason that these steps often are used outside. 

For a spiral staircase inside one can advantageously choose a surface of wooden or rug for a softer and more quiet comfort. A staircase inside does not have the same need for corrosion protection but still rust with time as untreated. In order to get a long durability, the stair is galvanized and/or powder coated. 


33x50 mm is our standard step made of press welded grating and is suitable for most applications where you want good throughput. Snow falls easily through and it gives good slip protection.


The step surface is made of press locked grating with tighter mesh width, 33x11mm. The press locked grating has flat steel in both directions. It is possible to get both the cross and bearing bar serrated.


The tear plate is completely dense with a tear pattern which gives moderate slip protection indoors. The tear plate is easy to keep clean from dirt and water.

In our standard range there are five standard railings. The staircase pole in all five choices consists of poles of U-profile. You choose the railing model that is most suitable for the environment the staircase should be used in. Two models are child safe railing models. For a spiral staircase to be fully child safe no opening can be larger than 100 mm. 


Our industrial railing consists of U-profiles with the measurements 30x32x30 mm. They have an important function for the stability of the staircase since they are attached in both the step and the handrail. Our construction is developed to achieve the best stability with the least amount of components. The poles are easily assembled from the inside of the staircase.


The child safe railing consists of poles in U-profile where a bracket has been welded on both sides of the pole to give a maximum opening on 100 mm. This is the maximum limit for the openings between step, staircase railing and platform railing in a child safe staircase. With these child safe poles in the staircase railing the staircase can be used in all types of environments. The child safe poles are assembled, as the industrial poles, from the inside of the staircase.


The railing consists of tighter U-profiles to make the staircase child safe. The poles have a limited opening on 100 mm which is the maximum limit for how big the openings are allowed to be between step, staircase railing and platform railing in a child safe staircase. The poles are assembled from the inside of the staircase.


Knee lists are used with the purpose to improve a standard industrial railing. The knee list is made of flat iron which are attached to the industrial railing. This railing model does not count as a child safe railing since the openings in the staircase exceeds 100 mm.


Same as railing with one knee list with the difference that this railing has two knee lists attached to the industrial railing. These types of railings are primarily used to improve a standard industrial railing. Just as the railing with one knee list the knee lists are made of flat iron.


When we talk about platforms in a spiral staircase there are two different types of platforms. There are alighting platforms that ends the staircase on the top and landing platforms between different sections of the staircase. Both kind of platforms does normally have a surface of galvanized grating but can also be done with tear plate, plain plate or hole grating. The platform railing is just like the rest of the staircase made of industrial or child safe execution. Where there are big platforms the platform/platforms should be assembled onto the facade with consoles before the center tube are assembled but all that are extensively described in the drawings and assembly instruction that follows the staircase. 

Of course, the staircase is built specifically for your property, with the needed platform angles to adapt the alighting to the position you wish. 


Alighting platform is the platform where the staircase connects to a facade. This means where the staircase ends seen from below. Our alighting platforms is available in several different executions and angles and customized to suit for your property.


Landings exists between different staircase sections if the staircase have several. Large or long spiral staircases can be complemented with landings to get a space to meet or to rest on.


The connection step is used instead of an alighting platform where you want to connect to an existing joist. The connection step is elevated at the back edge to be able to attach to the joists. It is important to know the thickness of the joist, so it is possible to attach the connection step.


The handrail in a Eurostair spiral staircase is manufactured with modern technology and craftmanship and expertise. No sharp interruptions or protruding screws can be found on the Eurostair handrail. The design is carefully thought out for best comfort. The inner handrail is also placed so you do not get stuck with hands or clothes. 

The handrail consists of handrail sections that range over 3,4 or 5 steps and are assembled to the railing poles. To connect the handrails, we use a unique and easy-assembled sleeve, on the underside of the handrail, which gives a stable and simple handrail sheeting with barely notable joints. Due to the sheeting you can follow the handrail with the hand without having to let go when you walk the staircase. 

The lower part of the handrail also works as a support to the grounding. At the bottom of the handrail there are an adjustable foot to anchor to the ground or floor after adjustment. 


The handrailing diameter is 42,2 mm and can be made, just as the rest of the staircase, in galvanized, powder coated or galvanized and powder coated execution. The staircase pole is a U-profile with measurement 30x32x30 mm, and the handrail is assembled to the stair pole with M6 bolts.


The surface treatment of the staircase is determined by whether the staircase should be placed indoors or outdoors and be exposed by the weather. To get the best anti-corrosion protection we always work with a two-step process in terms of powder coating. First a layer of zinc primer to get an easy protection for rust and better surface finish and then we add a layer of semi-matt RAL powder coat.


For spiral staircases with large radius a handrail on the center tube can give extra support to hold on to. Since the step depth closest to the center tube is much smaller it can be difficult to meet people in the staircase. In those situations, a handrail on the center tube can contribute to extra support.


The inner handrail gives extra support for example children and is placed inside the railing poles at the height of 900 mm.

Protective cages

In environments where children are present or a risk for unwanted passage exists you can add a protective cage to prevent access to the spiral staircase. The cages can look different and have different height. As a standard we produce the cage as a rounded quarter cage in grating, but it is also usual to have a ground connected cage which is placed outside the staircase construction. 


The quarter cage is our standard cage and is assembled directly on the staircase construction and follows the staircase a quarter turn. The quarter cage consists of grating sections and a doorframe with a door in grating. The grating sections is assembled directly on the staircase poles and the door is prepared to be supplemented with an ASSA lock cylinder.


A detached ground connected cage is placed on fundaments outside the staircase construction. As standard the cage has diameter 1300 mm and height 3000 mm. Sections to add is available to reach a height of 4500mm. As special the cage can also be manufactured in a square shape.
